AhlulBayt News Agency: Hamas has announced that it has reached a preliminary agreement with U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff, outlining a general framework for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
According to IRNA, in a statement released Wednesday, the Palestinian resistance movement emphasized its ongoing efforts to end the conflict in Gaza, highlighting this latest agreement as a crucial step toward achieving that goal.
“The framework establishes a permanent ceasefire, ensures the full withdrawal of occupation forces from Gaza, facilitates the delivery of humanitarian aid, and sets up a professional committee to oversee the administration of the Strip once the agreement is formalized,” Hamas stated.
Additionally, the agreement includes provisions for a prisoner exchange, with Hamas agreeing to release ten Israeli prisoners and the remains of several others in return for an agreed number of Palestinian detainees, under the supervision of mediators.
Hamas noted that it is now awaiting a final response to this framework from relevant parties.
The announcement follows reports that Hamas and Witkoff reached the draft agreement during discussions in Doha a day earlier, signaling a potential breakthrough in negotiations to end hostilities in Gaza.
